    BEHIND THE DESIGN

    Our Design 'Inspo'

Canopy Estate's designs are inspired by the amazing creatures of the world and their natural habitats.

    MEET THE HUMPBACK WHALE

    A friendly nomad.

Humpback whales (a.k.a. the globe-trotters of the sea) undertake one of the longest migratory journeys of any mammal on Earth. They can travel up to 8,000 km (approximately 5,000 miles) between their feeding and breeding grounds—that's about the distance between Toronto, Ontario, and Athens, Greece. Despite their obvious physical prowess, they can also be profoundly empathetic. These gentle giants have been documented protecting seals and other marine mammals from orca attacks, and in at least one case, intervening in a shark attack against a diver.

    Blowing bubbles.

In a stunning display of ingenuity and teamwork, Humpbacks are one of the only marine creatures to hunt with ‘bubble nets’. In the deep, they begin by swimming in circles, blowing bubbles to create a cylindrical "net" around a school of fish. Then, they swim upwards, mouths wide open, and trap the fish inside this bubble net. Finally, they surface, mouths closed, and swallow their catch. This clever strategy allows the group to feast on tiny fish and krill. It's an amazing sight to see!
